The Aftermath

Photo Credit: Simona Sergi on unsplash.com

The waves carry me gently to the shore
Past the shadows haunting the sea
They look unblinking but see no more
In the Reaper's Carriage no space for me

Receding clouds bid me farewell
And the faint glow of a rising sun
Proves false what the seers foretell
The night has passed I fear none

The shallow waters tell no lies
The wind whispers a soothing lullaby
In that comfort I close my eyes
Let the current bring me to you as you pass by

Moments flee and time loses meaning
I drown and float in between screaming
When I awake in an embrace firm and warm
In a meadow as you cradle me in your arms

Your voice is soft and you haven't aged a day
We'll stay here till we are old and gray
I reach for your lips when you say to me
"Rest easy, my love. You are home with me."
